What is a chartplotter used for?
A chartplotter draws your position on a marine chart so you can follow a channel, a contour, or a saved track.
How is a chartplotter different from similar gear?
Chart plus GPS. Not a fish finder’s sonar column, though combo units exist — this type is the chart job.
When should you use a chartplotter?
Run it inshore and offshore whenever the water has channels, rocks, or a fog bank.
What problems does a chartplotter solve?
It keeps the hull in water deep enough for the engine, on a line you can repeat.
