What is a fish finder used for?

A fish finder is the sonar head unit that turns a transducer’s ping into a picture of bottom, bait, and fish.

How is a fish finder different from similar gear?

The screen, not the transducer on the hull. A bite alarm is a different device — it beeps when line moves, not when sonar paints a mark.

When should you use a fish finder?

Use it on a boat or a kayak whenever you are hunting structure or a bait ball you cannot see.

What problems does a fish finder solve?

It shows whether you are on fish or on empty water before you empty the box of lures.
