About Telestes ukliva fishing

Telestes ukliva, commonly known as the Cetina dace or Ukliva dace, is a freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Leuciscidae. Endemic to the Cetina river system in Croatia, this elongated species features a distinctive black midlateral stripe and a rounded snout that projects beyond the upper lip. It typically inhabits slow-flowing and still waters on low plains with minimal current. Known historically to have suffered severe population declines and a temporary disappearance before its rediscovery, the species remains under serious threat from habitat loss, pollution, and introduced species. It is a small-bodied fish of no commercial or game interest, reaching a maximum recorded length of twenty-five centimetres.

How to catch Telestes ukliva

Tips for catching Telestes ukliva

Target this small endemic cyprinid in clear river habitats by using ultra-light float tackle equipped with fine lines and tiny hooks. Present natural baits such as small aquatic larvae or maggots just above the gravel bed where the current slows down. Subtle presentation is essential because these fish feed cautiously in shallow runs and spring zones. Early morning hours during stable spring and summer flows provide the most reliable sport when individuals congregate near aquatic vegetation and rocky margins.
