Shock leader

Thick shock section

Heavy diameter line absorbs casting impact and resists abrasion.

Join

Secure knot connects the heavy leader material to the main line.

What is a shock leader used for?

A shock leader is a thick mono or tapered section that takes the cast. Carp shock is heavy (around 0.65 to 0.75 mm), not thin fluorocarbon.

How is a shock leader different from similar gear?

It is a casting and playing shock, not a stealth fluoro tip. Surfcasting and carp both use this type.

When should you use a shock leader?

Use it for surfcasting and carp work when a heavy lead or a hard run would snap the main at the knot.

What problems does a shock leader solve?

It stops a crack-off on the cast and gives a thicker rubbing length in the wash or the weed.
