Tip

What is a casting rod used for?

A casting rod is the over-reel fishing rod for baitcasting and conventional reels. Line runs through guides on top of the blank.

How is a casting rod different from similar gear?

This is the broader family: a baitcasting rod is the dedicated bass and inshore stick inside it. The seat is casting, not spinning.

When should you use a casting rod?

Fish it when the reel sits on top — jigging, popping, and heavy-cover lures that need thumb control.

What problems does a casting rod solve?

It gives a stronger lock on the fish and better accuracy into timber than an under-slung spinning rod.
