Bite leader

Loop

Tied loop at the top connects the leader directly to the main line.

Heavy mono body

Thick monofilament section resists sharp teeth and heavy abrasion from toothy fish.

Join

Metal crimp securely connects the main leader body to the swivel and wire.

What is a bite leader used for?

A bite leader is a heavy polymer — thick fluorocarbon or monofilament — for fish that rasp rather than cut with scissors teeth.

How is a bite leader different from similar gear?

Heavy nylon or fluoro, not wire. For abrasive mouths, not for wahoo or barracuda that slice nylon. Inspect it after every fish; it is not bite-proof.

When should you use a bite leader?

Fish it when wire would spook fish but light fluorocarbon keeps getting chewed.

What problems does a bite leader solve?

It takes rasping without the flash and stiffness of a wire trace.
